| Although the company was not
started until 1992, the foundation for the business was laid
long before that. Marshall first became interested in building
furniture while in high school. Through the influence and
encouragement of his teacher, Russell Paxton he was inspired
to begin a career in woodworking. After high school, Marshall
started out subcontracting to a furniture company much like
the one he would later build and continued doing this through
the 1980’s.
Finally in 1991 his dream of having his own furniture manufacturing
company began to take shape. He began to realize that he could
deliver to consumers a quality product plus provide great
customer service on his own. His parents, Charlie and Jessie
Jordan encouraged and supported his belief in himself and
his ability to accomplish his dream. He ceased subcontracting
and with his wife Marcie they founded American Heritage Furniture
in 1992. In January of that year, Marshall and Marcie introduced
their furniture line at the Atlanta Furniture Show. Noticing
a demand for pine furniture they began by offering a basic
pine stain or paint finish. It didn’t take long for
the company to explode in growth after that. •
